Celtic Christianity
Celtic Christianity is a term used to describe the form of Christianity practiced in Ireland, Wales, and parts of South-West England from the missions of Saint Patrick and Saint Ninian.
Christianity came to Ireland in the 5th century A.D, with the arrival of St. Patrick (Ireland's patron saint). Since then, Christianity has played major role in Ireland's subsequent history and culture.
-
Only an hour from Dublin takes you to Glendalough (the glen of the two lakes). This is a truly spellbinding place - a monastic settlement which has been a centre for pilgrims and visitors since its foundation by St. Kevin in the 6th century.
- Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly is an early Christian site founded by Saint Ciaran in the 6th century on the banks of the River Shannon.
- Croagh Patrick, Co. Mayo is renowned for its Patrician Pilgrimage in honour of Saint
Patrick. It was on the summit of the mountain that Saint
Patrick fasted for forty days, and the custom has been faithfully
handed down from generation to generation.
We can arrange excursions to these, and a large variety of Ireland's multitude of historic Christian sites.
